My aim is to show how the concept of the contemplative seulette, as employed by Christine de Pizan and Jean Gerson, is indebted to the work of Petrarch. I will devote the first half of the paper to showing general borrowings. I will devote the second half of the paper to a specific example: how Christine’s seulette is a recasting of a concept found in specific text by Petrarch
